book thoughts; a synopsis.

telling everyday stories from a black perspective has always been a quiet dream in the back of my head. i’d grown tried of seeing cool stories told on film and television that center white experiences only, as if black and brown folks don’t have interesting stories worth telling.

so, in 2023, i got to writing and drafting a synopsis for an untitled book. a book about 3 friends, navigating their lives and chasing their dreams. so after years of just sitting on it. here it is…

Untitled Book Synopsis:

Oakland. A promise and a pressure. I arrived with Van and Jeremiah, my brothers, our dreams burning. These are our stories as I see them. Storytelling is my lifeline, a way to unravel the tangled threads of Black and Queer existence. But this city? It demands more than stories. Publishing's a battlefield. Van's kitchen is a warzone of subtle slights. Jeremiah's office, a front-row seat to the system's brutal dance, where men and women who look like us are devoured.

And me? I'm navigating the shadows, the microaggressions, the weight of a world that still struggles to see us, even in a place known for its rebellion. Our bond, forged in shared history and unspoken truths, is tested. I question everything—expectations, biases, and the very shape of our identities. Can our connection, the one thing that anchors us, survive the demands of ambition and identity in this city?
