Day Eight: Tell the story of the best meal you’ve ever had.

Word Count: 155

Food is, of course, the way to any man’s heart. Or at least that’s what they say (who the fuck is they). And honestly, me too! LOL. Food makes me dance, sing, and get all emotional, and it's my ultimate comfort. Thinking about my best meal ever? It was definitely made by THEE COOK, Sam Brown!

Undergrad life meant home-cooked meals were rare. On my HBCU campus, the “cafe” is closed at 7, and dorm kitchens are not open. Non-existent honestly. So, we were often way hungrier on weekdays and weekends than the caf schedule allowed. One day, we pooled our money and decided to splurge on dinner.

Sam, a Knoxville native and fellow Livingstonian (that’s our school), was our resident senior, always looking out for us newbies. Sam dropped the magic words: “I’ll cook.” After a quick budget check, he decided on a real home-cooked feast. I don’t remember how we picked it, but here’s the menu:

  • Meatloaf wrapped in Bacon

  • Smashed Potatoes with Crispy Bacon

  • Green Beans with Bacon Bits

Seriously, we rolled out of that apartment like beach balls. The food was just that good. All buttery and smooth, the smashed red potatoes tasted like he’d whipped up actual cumulous clouds. And the sheer amount of bacon he used in everything? It's ridiculous, honestly, but truly one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
