30 days and change: Day 11

DAY ELEVEN: Describe a hobby you used to have that you no longer do. Why did you stop?

Word Count: 228

One hobby that I loved and enjoyed but no longer do is listening to music. Ingesting music is such a spiritual thing. I used to spend hours listening to new music and cycling through old songs that brought back nostalgia in a way that felt like a therapy session. However, as years passed, I just withdrew from newer music and became trapped in the music I knew, and that of once was.

In undergrad, I was dating a DL man and trying to get over him at the same time (yeah, it was complicated. but when is dating a DL not complicated?). It had me messed all the way up, and Drake’s album ‘Take Care’ had dropped and settled in my spirit with such situational awareness. Reflecting, so much so that it sent me into a depression of sorts around that time. It was the first instance I had witnessed the power of music and its ability to carry your mind into unknown wonders (well, at least in my adult years, and tied to such physical and emotional romance). Such a jarring experience, I think, removed me from music. My true love, the feelings, emotions, and soul-moving 2-5 minutes music brought me had been removed too. In turn, I became a bit more avoidant of music, ignoring its magic and becoming less social and more avoidant of vulnerability.
